Vietnam, Malaysia look to cement ties VNTimes

Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan and Malaysian King Abdul Halim MuadzamShah have agreed to continue cooperation between Vietnam andMalaysia in various fields including security, defence, labour,education and training, culture, sports, tourism, and oil and gas.

During their meeting in Kuala Lumpur on June 6 on the occasion ofVice President Doan’s stay in Malaysia to attend the 23rd GlobalSummit of Women, the two sides expressed their delight at thedeveloping friendship and multifaceted cooperation between the twocountries.


They said they believe that throughpractical joint activities in celebrating the 40th anniversary of thetwo countries’ diplomatic ties in 2013, the mutual understanding andtrust between the two nations and peoples will be deepened, stronglypromoting their ties in the future and the establishment of a strategicpartnership.


Both sides underscored the significanceof the maintenance of delegation exchanges and high-level meetings aswell as people-to-people diplomacy between the two countries.


Accordingly, the Malaysian King said he will visit Vietnam soon.


The King affirmed that his country will create all possible conditionsfor the Vietnamese community to settle their lives in the country,while dealing with issues relating to Vietnamese fishermen and ships onthe basis of humanitarian spirit and the friendship between the twocountries.


Both Vice President Doan and theMalaysian King pledged to strengthen cooperation at regional andinternational forums, especially in the framework of ASEAN and theUnited Nations.


They agreed on the need to complywith international law, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention onthe Law of the Sea (1982 UNCLOS), strictly implement the Declaration onConduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) and build a Code of Conduct inthe East Sea (COC) at an early date, with a view to maintaining peaceand stability in the East Sea and the region.


Thesame day, Vice President Doan met with Keosaichay Saynhaxon, the wife ofLao President Chumaly Saynhasone. They shared the pleasure at thesigning of a cooperation agreement on women development between theVietnam and Laos Women Unions for the 2012-2017 period.


They expressed their belief that the two associations will continuesharing experience in economic development, while working closelytogether to educate the younger generations of both countries to furtherthe solidarity between Vietnam and Laos.


Also on June 6, Vice President Doan visited the Sony Malaysia factory, where about 450 Vietnamese work.-VNA
